In winter 2000, Naomi painted her first animal portrait. The subject is her cat Jasmine, who was 13 years old at the time of the portrait.

Jasmine passed away at age 17 in 2004. She was a feisty cat. She expressed pleasure by ramming her head into the object of her affection (usually a person) and purring very loudly. She ran to the font door to excitedly greet visitors, she did not like dogs, and she really loathed raccoons.
